Welcome to the Final Episode of the Inflammation Pandemic Series

August 12th, 2025 by

I’m Anjela, a Holistic Medical Herbalist.

Over the course of this series, we’ve explored how inflammation in the smooth muscle lining throughout the body is a root cause of many chronic health conditions. From the digestive and respiratory systems to the cardiovascular and reproductive systems, we’ve seen how this internal lining, when inflamed, can lead to disease.

We’ve also examined real case histories, showing how herbal medicine, dietary changes, and lifestyle shifts can help regulate immune function and even reverse chronic conditions—especially when treatment begins early.

Three Root Causes of Immune Overreaction

Most chronic illnesses today stem from immune overreaction, which inflames the smooth muscle lining. There are three main contributors:
1. Diet and Lifestyle Abuse
Repeated exposure to irritants—processed foods, inflammatory oils, or stimulants—damages the lining. The immune system tries to heal, but repeated assaults lead it to attack our own tissues.
2. Stress and Nervous Tension
Chronic physical, emotional, or mental stress keeps the body in fight-or-flight mode, preventing healing and repair. Over time, this autonomic dysfunction results in disease manifestation.
3. Post-Viral Autoimmunity
Viral infections like COVID-19 can confuse the immune system, causing it to attack muscles, joints, or organs long after the virus is gone—a hallmark of long COVID and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Real-Life Case Histories

1. Psoriasis and Mental Conditioning

A factory worker in his 30s came to me over 20 years ago with full-body psoriasis. Despite partial improvement on herbal support, deeper healing was blocked. He believed his condition was a punishment—a form of emotional self-sabotage that halted progress.
Takeaway: Healing requires us to release limiting beliefs and mental conditioning. Herbs
can’t heal what the mind won’t allow.

2. Long COVID Recovery

A healthcare worker in her 40s was bedbound with breathlessness and fatigue for 3 years post-COVID. With tailored herbs, adrenal support, and dietary change, she was 70% better in 4 months and is now back at work full time.
Takeaway: Even severe post-viral fatigue can heal with the right holistic approach and time.

3. Chronic Burping and Hiatal Hernia

A 30-year-old suffered painful burping and bloating for 3 years. We addressed his esophageal inflammation, toned the smooth muscle lining, and optimized digestion. By 6 months, he was 90% better.
Takeaway: Like any muscle, the smooth muscle lining can be toned and strengthened—with the right herbs and consistent treatment.

Understanding Colitis and Smooth Muscle Inflammation

When inflammation occurs in the large intestine, the body tries to purge through mucus or blood, as seen in ulcerative colitis. Strengthening the smooth muscle lining here is key to long-term healing.

Herbal Support for Smooth Muscle Health

Two key formulas I recommend:

  • Berberis Plus
A powerful digestive tonic that aids assimilation and clears pathogens.
  • Marshmallow Root Plus
Soothes, hydrates, and strengthens smooth muscle lining—from the sinuses to the
    colon.

Keeping our internal lining moist, strong, and healthy allows the immune system to function at its best—protecting us from external threats like viruses and internal imbalances like cancer.

Inflammation in Muscles and Joints: The Hidden Link to Autoimmunity

August 12th, 2025 by

Introduction

Inflammation is often seen as a surface symptom — a swollen joint or an aching back. But beneath these familiar signs can lie a deeper imbalance in the body’s regulatory systems. In this article, we explore how inflammation in the smooth muscle lining — particularly in the gut, nerves, blood vessels, and lymphatic vessels — can trigger autoimmune reactions that affect muscles and joints.

More Than Wear and Tear

We often associate joint and muscle pain with aging or overuse — such as sore knees from running or a stiff back from repetitive strain. These cases typically involve a specific joint or muscle group and are mechanical in nature.

But there’s another kind of pain — radiating, shifting discomfort that seems to move unpredictably through the body. This pattern often signals an autoimmune origin, where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, thinking they are threats. And surprisingly, this can begin in the smooth muscle lining of internal systems — not the muscles or joints themselves.

Case 1: When a Virus Triggers Autoimmunity

A 22-year-old woman came to me with severe muscle and joint pain that left her housebound. Despite taking immune suppressants for three years, she remained in pain. After reviewing her full history, we found a clear starting point: a viral infection that triggered lingering inflammation. Her lymph nodes were still swollen, and her body continued to behave as though the virus was present.

We addressed the underlying inflammation in her smooth muscle linings — especially the nervous and digestive systems — while supporting her body with lymphatic and blood- cleansing herbs. Her diet was simplified to eliminate common intolerant foods like wheat, yeast, and milk, and replaced with whole, natural foods.

Within three months, she experienced 60% improvement. After 18 months, she was off all medications, her inflammation markers were normal, and she was living a pain-free life.

Case 2: When Food Becomes the Enemy

A 56-year-old woman struggled with widespread joint and muscle pain, worsened after meals. Even common foods like lentils, ginger, and pepper triggered intense symptoms. Her lab tests were normal, but her pain and despair were very real.

This was a classic case of immune system dysregulation. Her body was reacting aggressively to partially digested food particles — a sign that her smooth muscle lining in the digestive tract was damaged, allowing foreign proteins to enter the bloodstream and trigger inflammation.

We focused on immune modulation, not suppression, and supported the healing of her digestive lining with herbs and a carefully tailored diet. Within three months, her pain dropped by 30%. After a year, she was eating with her family again and had returned to part-time work — with no medication.

The Root of Autoimmune Muscle and Joint Pain

These cases highlight a critical truth: chronic inflammation and autoimmune conditions often originate from internal systems that aren’t obviously connected to the site of pain. When the smooth muscle lining of the gut, nerves, or blood vessels becomes inflamed, it can trigger widespread symptoms throughout the body.

Suppression is not healing. When we support the body’s innate ability to regulate, eliminate, and rebuild, deep healing becomes possible — even after years of suffering.

Herbal Support for Mild to Moderate Inflammation

If you’re dealing with early-stage or mild joint and muscle inflammation, here are two herbal blends I recommend:

  • Wood Betony Plus – To reduce pain and inflammation while gently regulating the immune system.
  • Marshmallow Root Plus – To strengthen and soothe the smooth muscle linings throughout the body.

Take these for 3–6 months along with a wholefood diet, avoiding common intolerants like wheat, dairy, yeast, and basmati rice.

For complex or advanced cases — especially if you are on immune suppressants — please consult a holistic herbal practitioner for tailored support.

A Final Word

My deepest wish is for each of us to live life to our fullest potential — and that begins with a healthy body and a calm, balanced mind. When we support the body’s natural ability to repair and renew, our inner energy rises effortlessly, helping us return to our purpose with strength and clarity.

Healing the Heart: Understanding and Reversing Inflammation in the Cardiovascular System

August 12th, 2025 by

By Anjela Jeganathan, Holistic Medical Herbalist

Welcome back to the Stop the Inflammation Pandemic series.

In the last episode, we explored inflammation in the surface nervous system and how itaffects our ability to handle stress and emotions. I introduced a powerful formula — Gotu Kola Complex, or what I call “meditation in a bottle.” It supports mental clarity, reduces nervous overload, and calms surface-level anxiety.

Today, we turn our focus inward — to the cardiovascular system.

What Is Inflammation in the Cardiovascular System?

Your cardiovascular system isn’t just your heart — it includes every blood vessel, capillary, and the soft muscle linings that protect these structures.

The innermost lining of your blood vessels is made of smooth muscle and acts as a vital barrier. When this lining is inflamed, it sets the stage for:

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes and insulin resistance
  • Arterial blockages and heart disease

When healthy, this lining repels LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides. But inflammation stops the production of protective proteins, and the immune system may begin attacking your own tissues, thinking it’s helping — causing more damage.

Can These Conditions Be Reversed?

Yes — if caught early.
Late-stage example:
Someone with 10+ years of diabetes on insulin, also suffering from blood pressure issues, kidney decline, and nerve damage.
At this point, complete reversal is unlikely, but we can still support the body to prevent further harm.

Early-stage example:

Someone recently gained weight and just had a test showing slightly raised sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure.
This is the golden window.
With lifestyle change and targeted herbs, the body can completely reset itself in 3–6 months.

Real-Life Case Studies

Case 1:
A 44-year-old man came to me with fatigue and an enlarged heart. His diet was poor, and though tests were “normal,” doctors advised yearly monitoring.
We introduced:

  • Anti-inflammatory herbs for the cardiovascular system
  • Adrenal and liver support
  • A revised eating window (6–8pm)
  • Whole foods, healthy proteins, and fasting (which suited his lifestyle)

In 6 months: He lost weight, increased energy, and began exercising.
After 1 year: He no longer needed herbs — his body had reset itself.

Gotu Kola Complex continued to help with emotional and nervous system regulation
during this phase.

Case 2:
A man in his 60s with high blood pressure for over 20 years came off statins due to elevated liver enzymes.
We introduced:

  • A raw food protocol
  • Vascular-supportive herbs
  • Lifestyle coaching

Within 7 days:

  • Blood pressure dropped from 140/90 to 115/75
  • Cholesterol dropped from 5.12 to 3.75
He maintained progress on a 60% raw, 40% cooked diet, and his doctor began
    reducing his blood pressure meds.

Why Herbs Work — When Used Wisely

Herbs are not quick fixes — they heal. They support the body’s innate intelligence to:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Restore vessel elasticity
  • Strengthen heart muscle

My go-to herbal combinations:

  • Hawthorn Plus – Supports the heart muscle, improves elasticity, and reduces vessel inflammation
  • Marshmallow Root Plus – Soothes and restores smooth muscle lining integrity
  • Gotu Kola Complex – Calms the nervous system and supports cardiovascular resilience through stress reduction

Final Thoughts

  • Inflammation in blood vessels is now recognised by modern medicine.
  • Markers like Apolipoproteins B and C reveal early signs.
  • A healthy vessel lining produces Matrix Gla protein, which prevents calcium and fat buildup — but inflammation stops this process.

So should we just rely on supplements like Vitamin K2 and D3?

Or do we reduce inflammation, so the body restores balance on its own?

My approach: Support the body. Don’t override it.

You Can Heal Even long-term habits can be reversed with:

  • Real food
  • Targeted herbs
  • A personalised approach
  • Patience and commitment

Health is wealth.
And your heart? It’s more than a pump — it’s your emotional and energetic centre.

In the next episode, we’ll explore inflammation in the smooth muscle linings of joints andmuscles.

Stop the Inflammation Pandemic: Inflammation in the Male Reproductive System

Inflammation in the male Reproductive System

Author: Anjela Jeganathan, Holistic Medical Herbalist

Welcome back to the Inflammation Pandemic series.

In our last post, we explored inflammation in the female reproductive system — and how chronic immune responses in the mucosal and smooth muscle linings can disrupt hormonal balance, ovulation, and fertility.

Today, we’re shifting our focus to men — specifically, how inflammation affects the male reproductive system.

What Happens When the Male Reproductive System Is Inflamed?

The male reproductive system — including the testes, prostate, epididymis, and seminal vesicles — is lined with smooth muscle and delicate mucosal tissues. These tissues can become inflamed due to:

  • Viral or bacterial infections
  • Autoimmune responses
  • Recurrent injury
  • Chronic stress and low immunity

When inflammation becomes chronic, it may lead to:

  • Low sperm count or poor sperm quality
  • Testicular inflammation
  • Prostate enlargement or chronic prostatitis
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Male infertility

Some viruses (like herpes) remain dormant in the body and can trigger inflammatory flare-ups when the immune system is compromised. That’s why a strong immune system is essential — not just to fight off acute infections, but to prevent reactivation of latent viruses and early-stage cellular damage.

Case 1: From Male Infertility to Fatherhood

A man in his 40s came to me for infertility. His sperm analysis showed no sperm but did show spermatozoa, and he had a history of chronic colitis with multiple courses of prednisone. His diet was highly restricted, with poor nutrient intake due to digestive fears.

We focused on:

  • Healing and nourishing smooth muscle linings
  • Enhancing testosterone and sperm production
  • Supporting digestive repair and nutrient absorption

With herbal support, dietary changes (including soups and smoothies), and key nutrients, his wife conceived within five months. He now has two healthy children, and his colitis is in remission.

Case 2: Chronic Herpes Reactivation and Smooth Muscle Damage

A 28-year-old man experienced recurring blisters and pain after sexual activity — a herpes outbreak that had become more frequent. Initially a few times a year, it was now triggered by any friction, causing distress and emotional strain.

This was a classic case of:

  • Chronic inflammation from a dormant virus
  • Weakened immunity from stress and anxiety
  • Damaged, sensitive smooth muscle lining

We supported his adrenal system, immune health, and mucosal healing with targeted herbs. After 6 months, his outbreaks stopped, and he regained confidence and joy in his life.

Herbal Support for Male Reproductive Health

If you’re preparing to start a family, give your body three months to build healthy sperm and repair inflammation. These herbal formulations are especially supportive:

Gokshura & Ashwagandha Plus

  • Enhances testosterone naturally
  • Improves sperm count, motility, and shape
  • Supports vitality and stress resilience

Marshmallow Root Plus

  • Heals and reduces inflammation in smooth muscle linings
  • Moisturizes and strengthens delicate mucosal tissues
  • Supports immunity and overall reproductive function

Final Thoughts

The body prioritizes healing over reproduction. So if there’s underlying inflammation, sperm quality and fertility may be affected. But when you address the root cause, sperm health can be restored — naturally.

Both men and women should take at least three months to prepare their bodies for pregnancy — physically, emotionally, and nutritionally. A healthy beginning creates a healthier future for your child.

Let’s support the healer within.

Stay tuned for our next blog: Inflammation in the Surface Nervous System — how it affects your skin, mood, and sensitivity.

Inflammation of the Surface Nervous System: Where Healing Begins

July 10th, 2025 by

Welcome back to Stop the Inflammation Pandemic. I’m Anjela Jeganathan, Holistic Medical Herbalist.

In our previous post, we explored how inflammation in the male reproductive system can silently disrupt fertility, libido, and long-term vitality. Today, we shift our focus to a lesser-discussed, but crucial area of health — the surface nervous system, and how inflammation here could be quietly shaping your thoughts, feelings, and even your memory.

What Is the Surface Nervous System?

The surface nervous system is your interface with the world — the part of your body and mind that processes everyday stress, fear, thoughts, emotions, and responsibilities. It governs how you respond to your environment: your work, your relationships, your health, and your sense of self.

This is distinct from the deeper nervous system, which stores emotional wounds, generational trauma, and subconscious cellular memory — often buried deep in muscle and cell tissue.

Before we can heal those deeper wounds, we must first restore peace at the surface level.

How Inflammation Affects the Nervous System

Imagine an electrical wire — insulated by plastic. If that protective covering is damaged, the current flickers or short-circuits. This is exactly what happens when the myelin sheath — the protective layer of your nerves — becomes inflamed.

As inflammation takes hold:

  • Nerve signals get distorted
  • Your body reacts instead of responds
  • You may feel anxious, hypersensitive, or mentally scattered

Occasional inflammation is manageable. But chronic inflammation can push the immune system to attack nerve linings, leading to:

  • Memory lapses
  • Cognitive decline
  • Potential conditions like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease

In short, when brain membranes are inflamed, the regions storing memory and function become “locked.” What begins as forgetfulness can become permanent loss if not addressed early.

Science is still unraveling this link — but your body already knows how to heal. We just need to listen.

Healing Starts from Within

Your body holds the intelligence to repair itself. But for healing to begin, we must quiet the surface noise — the anxiety, overthinking, and fear.

Once this layer is soothed, the body can begin to access and release deeper emotional wounds — including inherited trauma and mental conditioning. That’s when real transformation begins.

Case Story: Healing Beyond the Symptoms

A 20-year-old came to my clinic with severe anxiety and frequent bowel movements — up to 8 times a day.

His symptoms began at age 11, but intensified at 18 after a traumatic public accident involving loose bowels. Since then, he avoided going out, checked for toilets constantly, and lived in a cycle of fear.

All his medical tests came back normal. But his nervous system told a different story.

I recognized the pattern: his surface nervous system was inflamed, and his gut — deeply linked to nerve health — was overwhelmed.

My treatment focused on:

  • Rebalancing his adrenal and nervous systems
  • Calming gut inflammation (especially in the smooth muscle lining)

After 4 months, he was opening his bowels just 1–2 times a day. He regained confidence, started socializing again, and is now beginning an apprenticeship.

It wasn’t his stomach that was broken.

It was a memory of fear — trapped in his nervous system — that was triggering physical symptoms.

Herbal Support for the Surface Nervous System

When you’re struggling with daily stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm, herbal support can be powerful. One of my favourites:

Gotu Kola Complex — “Meditation in a Bottle”

This blend:

  • Calms the nervous system for 3–4 hours
  • Brings mental clarity and calm focus
  • Helps you observe — rather than react to — your thoughts
  • Softens fear-based thinking and overprocessing

When taken daily for 2–3 months, it nurtures long-term nervous system resilience, restoring your natural state of joy and clarity.

One Moment at a Time

Physical injuries take time to heal.

But emotional pain? That can dissolve in a moment — when we see it for what it is.

You’re not your thoughts. You’re not your trauma. You're not your fears.

Life happens one moment at a time. A kind act. A smile. A breath. A choice.

We don’t need to carry every experience with us. Only what is essential — the wisdom that guides us forward.

Final Thoughts

Your nervous system is the gateway to your entire well-being. When it’s calm and grounded, your body remembers how to heal. Your mind finds peace. And life begins to feel whole again.

In our next article, we’ll explore how inflammation impacts the smooth muscle lining of the cardiovascular system — and what you can do to protect your heart from the inside out.

Until then, breathe deeply. Stay present.

And take care of your beautiful, wise nervous system.

Stop the Inflammation Pandemic: Inflammation in the Female Reproductive System

July 10th, 2025 by

Author: Anjela Jeganathan, Holistic Medical Herbalist

Welcome back to the Inflammation Pandemic blog series. In our last post, we explored the lymphatic system — your body’s powerful yet often overlooked drainage and defence network. We learned how sluggish lymph flow contributes to inflammation, chronic fatigue, and immune stress, and how gentle herbal support can bring this vital system back into
balance.

Today, we turn our attention to a sensitive and deeply important topic: chronic inflammation in the smooth muscle lining of the female reproductive system.

What Happens When Inflammation Affects the Female Reproductive System?

Your reproductive organs — the ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, and pelvic tissues — are lined with smooth muscle and mucous membranes. These linings host a delicate ecosystem of good and bad bacteria. When that balance is disrupted — by infections, antibiotics, hormonal changes, or emotional stress — your immune system kicks in.

But if that immune response becomes chronic, it creates a cycle of inflammation that can lead to:

  • PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)
  • Endometriosis
  • Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Recurrent Candida (yeast infections)
  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Infertility or hormonal imbalance

Know Your Normal: What a Healthy Cycle Looks Like

Understanding your healthy menstrual cycle is key to spotting early signs of imbalance. A normal cycle includes:

  • Cycle length: 28 to 35 days
  • Bleeding duration: 4 to 7 days
  • Heaviest flow: Days 2 to 4
  • Mild pain and small clots: Normal on heavy days

Signs of imbalance:

  • Bleeding or spotting for more than 7 days
  • Spotting before or after your period
  • No period for more than 35 days
  • Monthly spotting instead of a proper bleed
  • Large, irregular clots or debilitating pain

When these symptoms appear, your body is telling you something is out of balance. The earlier you respond, the easier it is to prevent chronic conditions.

Knowing your normal cycle is essential. Support your daughters to know theirs. If symptoms arise, don’t guess or self-medicate. Work with a qualified Holistic Medical Herbalist to uncover the root cause and support your body naturally.

Real Case: Stress-Induced Ovulation Failure

An 18-year-old girl came to me with irregular cycles. She had once had a regular 28–30 day cycle, but over the past year it stretched to 40–45 days with light bleeding. She also gained 2 stone and developed pigmentation on her neck and underarms.

Her lifestyle had changed drastically: intense A-level stress, late-night studying, poor sleep, too much coffee. Her body was in survival mode, and ovulation had shut down.

We supported her:

  • Adrenal and nervous system health
  • Hormonal balance and ovulation
  • Lymphatic drainage

After two regular periods, her pigmentation faded and she lost the excess weight. Today, she is thriving and studying music — something she loves. Her cycle remains regular.

“When you do what you love, your body heals.”

Real Case: Healing Severe Endometriosis

A 35-year-old woman came to me after suffering for a decade with endometriosis. She had:

  • 10–12-day heavy periods with large clots
  • Pain so intense she was housebound most of the month
  • Painful urination, bowel movements, loose stools during periods
  • Emotional distress: sadness, anger, irritability

She had tried surgeries and hormone therapy, but nothing worked long term. She was taking morphine daily.

With targeted herbal support, we focused on:

  • Reducing deep pelvic inflammation
  • Calming the nervous system
  • Addressing stored emotional trauma

After a year, her cycle became manageable: 6 days of bleeding, 2 days of pain, and no symptoms outside her period. She now has her life back and is preparing to start a family.

Even severe cases can heal — with time, patience, and the right herbal support.

Herbal Formulations for Reproductive Healing

For those preparing to start a family or aiming to restore reproductive balance, here are three powerful herbal combinations I recommend:

Shatavari Complex – Contains herbs that:

  • Strengthen the uterus to support a full-term pregnancy
  • Optimise ovulation so a healthy, mature egg is released every cycle
  • Tone and strengthen the entire pelvic area

Marshmallow Root Plus – Supports by:

  • Reducing inflammation in the smooth muscle linings throughout the body
  • Healing and toning mucosal tissue
  • Enhancing tissue integrity and resilience

Barley Grass Plus – A vital addition for:

  • Cleansing the system gently
  • Supporting the liver in breaking down and removing excess circulating hormones
  • Promoting hormonal balance and detoxification

For optimal results, take these formulations consistently for at least 3 months before trying to conceive. Pair them with a nutrient-dense whole food diet and cultivate a joyful mindset.

Final Thoughts

We women are blessed with bodies capable of creating life — how incredible is that?

Let’s care for these bodies with respect and intention, so we can bring healthy, joyful, disease-free human beings into the world.

Thank you for reading.

In our next post, we’ll be looking at inflammation in the male reproductive system. Stay tuned.

Stop the Inflammation Pandemic – The Lymphatic System

July 10th, 2025 by

Welcome back to the Inflammation Pandemic series!

I’m Anjela Jeganathan, a Holistic Medical Herbalist, and in this post we’re exploring one of the most overlooked yet vital systems in your body — the lymphatic system.

In our last post, we looked at how chronic inflammation in the urinary and pelvic region can cause symptoms that mimic infection — like recurring pain, urgency, or leakage — even when tests show no bacteria. The truth? These symptoms are often caused by inflammation of the smooth muscle lining, not infection.

We saw how healing doesn’t always come from antibiotics or immune suppression — but from soothing, strengthening, and restoring balance using the right herbal support.

So, What is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is your body’s drainage and defence network. It’s present all throughout your body, just like your circulatory system — from tiny vessels near your capillaries to larger channels near your veins.

Imagine this:

  • Your immune system is the defence department.
  • Your bone marrow is the weapons factory, making immune cells.
  • And the lymphatic system is the transport and storage network — moving those immune cells to where they’re needed, and removing waste and toxins at the same time.

Lymph nodes — the little glands you can feel under your chin when you’re sick — are located all over the body. Their main jobs include:

  • Storing and transporting immune cells
  • Absorbing fats from digestion (which are too large to enter blood vessels directly)
  • Removing excess fluid, damaged cells, and toxins from tissue spaces

Wherever there’s blood bringing in nutrients, there’s a lymph vessel to carry the waste back
out.

When the Lymph System Becomes Inflamed or Sluggish…

This powerful system can become blocked, inflamed, or sluggish — especially when there’s chronic inflammation in the smooth muscle lining.

Here’s what happens:

  • Toxins and waste build up in the tissues
  • Swelling and fluid retention begin
  • Immune function weakens
  • Chronic fatigue and puffiness may appear

In my clinic, I often palpate lymph nodes during physical exams. In nearly all chronic health conditions — from eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune arthritis, and allergies to hormonal imbalances — I find tender or swollen lymph nodes. This tells us that the body’s drainage and defence system is under stress.

One clear example? Under-eye puffiness. That’s not just poor sleep — it’s often lymphatic fluid that hasn’t been properly drained.

A Real-Life Case: Hair Loss and Lymph Stagnation

A woman in her 60s came to me after trying countless shampoos, treatments, and scalp products — even seeing Harley Street specialists — for itchy scalp and hair loss on the right side only.

During her examination, I found swollen, tender lymph nodes along the right side of her neck and underarm. Her right cheek was also slightly puffy. These were classic signs of fluid stagnation and inflammation.

We worked on:

  • Reducing inflammation
  • Restoring lymphatic flow
  • Stimulating hair follicles
  • Addressing scalp microbes gently

After 3 months, her symptoms were 60% improved. By 6 months, her lymph nodes were no longer swollen and her scalp was healthy again — without needing to keep using herbal remedies long-term. Her body had returned to balance.

The Root Message

Treat the root cause, and the body can heal.

We don’t need to override the immune system. We need to support it — with the right herbs, foods, and time.

Herbal Support for a Healthy Lymphatic System

Here are my top three herbal combinations for supporting lymphatic health:

  1. Schisandra Complex: Helps open up lymphatic glands and cleanse the system.
  2. Barley Grass Plus: Moves toxins gently toward the liver and kidneys for safe elimination.
  3. Marshmallow Root Plus: Calms inflammation in smooth muscle linings throughout the body.

Take these combinations consistently for at least 3 months. While on them, increase your intake of hydrating fruits and vegetables, and cut back on processed foods. The cleaner your input, the easier it is for your body to cleanse and heal.

A Word of Caution

If you have a chronic condition, are on medication, or are undergoing cancer treatment, please consult a qualified holistic medical herbalist.

Why?

Because some herbs can interact with medications or stimulate detox pathways too aggressively — potentially doing more harm than good. For example, certain herbs can mobilize cancer cells and inadvertently spread them if not carefully monitored.

Just as a peanut can be deadly for someone with an allergy, a herb can be unsafe when misused.

Avoid self-medicating or trusting untrained practitioners who’ve done only short courses. A true holistic medical herbalist will:

  • Look at your whole picture — not just the symptoms
  • Have the clinical knowledge to perform physical exams
  • Understand medication-herb interactions
  • And most importantly — put your healing and safety first

You Only Get One Body

If your iPhone breaks, you’ll make the effort to visit the Apple store, right?

But your body isn’t replaceable.

And the healer inside you is already at work — it just needs the right support, pure ingredients, and a little trust in nature.

Your body is sacred. Please treat it with care.

Thank you for reading.

Stop the Inflammation Pandemic: Breathe Easy – Inflammation in the Nose, Sinuses, and Lungs

June 11th, 2025 by

Welcome back to our series, Stop the Inflammation Pandemic. In the last two blogs, we explored how chronic inflammation can disrupt the digestive systemand how our gut is central to our overall health. Today, we’re shifting focus to something even more immediate—the air we breathe, and how it can inflame our nose, sinuses, and lungs.

Your Respiratory System: A Gateway to the World

Every breath you take brings the outside world directly into your body. In a healthy system, your nose and sinuses are lined with a moist mucosal layer that filters and traps dust, pollen, and other particles. It protects you.

But when that lining is dry, inflamed, or overworked, the immune system goes into
overdrive:
You sneeze
Your nose runs
Mucus builds up
You cough
At first, these are protective responses.
But when repeated or unresolved, they become chronic inflammation.

 How Inflammation Spirals

When something harmless—like pollen—gets mistaken as a threat, your immune system starts reacting unnecessarily.
This can lead to:
Sinusitis
Post-nasal drip
Asthma
Chronic bronchitis
Ongoing cough or mucus production
The body’s defenses, once helpful, now become a source of imbalance.

Acute vs. Chronic Inflammation

Acute Inflammation

Happens during:

A cold or flu
A short-term infection
Usually resolves in a few days with or without medication.

Chronic Inflammation

Stays long after the initial issue is gone.

The immune system doesn’t shut off
It keeps attacking
You may feel tired, sensitive to allergens, or get sick easily
It can damage the smooth muscle lining of the lungs and airways

This became painfully clear during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many recovered from the virus—but their lungs didn’t. Why?
Because the immune system became confused and started attacking healthy tissue.

How’s Your Immune System Coping?

Let’s reflect:
✔️ If you bounce back from a cold or flu in a few days, without needing meds, your immune
system is likely well-regulated.

But if you’re:

Sick every few months
Needing frequent antibiotics or steroids
Never fully recovering

That’s a clear sign: Your body needs support.

✅ Immune Modulation—Not Suppression

We don’t want to suppress the immune system.
We want to modulate it. Help it:

Respond appropriately to real threats (like viruses, bacteria, even cancer cells)
But ignore harmless things (like dust or food)

The good news? Your body already knows how to do this. It just needs the right environment.

Step 1: Clean Up the Diet (3 Months Minimum)

To calm inflammation, remove common irritants:

Cut out wheat, dairy, yeast, processed and hybrid grains
Add antioxidant-rich foods: red and purple fruits and vegetables (like berries, red
cabbage, beetroot)

These foods help repair tissue and lower inflammatory responses.

Step 2: Herbal Support (3–6 Months)

Let’s add herbal formulations that work on different parts of your respiratory system.

Core Remedy: Marshmallow Root Plus

Soothes inflammation from nose to lungs
Moisturizes and protects the entire respiratory tract

For Upper Respiratory (nose, sinuses, throat): Elderflower Complex

Clears mucosal buildup
Opens sinuses
Reduces inflammation gently but effectively

For Lower Respiratory (lungs and bronchioles): Lungwort Plus
